We’re delighted to have you with us for this evening of soulful swing and blues-infused jazz. These two essential styles are the heartbeat of America’s original art form, and tonight’s performance celebrates their enduring power — from the laid-back grooves of Kansas City to the high-energy pulse of the big band era.
As we honor these traditions, we also pay tribute to the great Slide Hampton — a true jazz innovator whose brilliant arrangements and commanding trombone voice left an indelible mark on the swing and blues idioms. Hampton’s work reminds us that jazz is not only about improvisation but also about the power of thoughtful composition and collaboration, values that the Charleston Jazz Orchestra holds dear.
