In CJO Season 7

The Charleston Jazz Orchestra (CJO), Charleston’s own resident big band, presents PEOPLE’S CHOICE: Fan Favorites from YOUR CJO for the sixth and final regular season show of Season 7 on Saturday, November 21 at the Charleston Music Hall. The Charleston Jazz Orchestra, led by Music Director Charlton Singleton, will present a performance of GREATEST HITS – LIVE from the bandstand at CJO’s House of Swing, performing from a special song list chosen by CJO’s loyal patrons. This concert reflects back over the all time favorites from the past six and a half years of fantastic performances such as CJO’s Countin’ on Basie (2009), Swing! Swing! Swing! (2010), The Music of Miles Davis (2011), Symphonic Swing (2012), Porgy & Bess Reimagined (2013), Buena Vista (2014) and more.

Jazz Artists of Charleston (JAC) concludes the Charleston Jazz Orchestra (CJO) Season 7 with the Special Event: HOLIDAY SWING: A Charleston Jazz Tradition on Saturday, December 12 at 8 p.m. for its debut performance at the new Charleston Gaillard Center, 95 Calhoun Street. HOLIDAY SWING will feature big band arrangements of holiday favorites. Add jazz to your holiday cheer with the Charleston Jazz Tradition!

The Charleston Jazz Orchestra is a twenty-piece big band comprised of many of Charleston’s finest musicians who play locally and around the globe. The orchestra debuted in March 2008 and has been electrifying audiences ever since. CJO performs all forms of jazz, and its repertoire includes blues, swing, AfroCuban, pop, progressive, Latin, jazz standards, ballads, and sacred.

Tickets for PEOPLE’S CHOICE are now on sale. The performance schedule includes two sets: 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Each set is a separate, 90-minute ticketed event with no intermission. All shows are performed at the band’s House of Swing, the Charleston Music Hall at 37 John Street. Adult tickets are priced at $35-$45, and senior tickets at $30-$40. College student tickets are priced at $10. Tickets for children age 7 to 18 are priced at $10 with purchase of regular price ticket. Children 6 and under have free admission with the purchase of a regular price ticket.

The Charleston Jazz Orchestra is produced and presented by Jazz Artists of Charleston (JAC), a South Carolina-based nonprofit organization incorporated to foster a professional environment for jazz musicians, artists, students and enthusiasts in the Charleston area. Its mission is to develop, promote, and support a vibrant and creative jazz culture through concerts, special outreach events, and educational programs. JAC endeavors to preserve and bolster Charleston’s rich musical history and legacy as it explores the various realms of jazz in terms of how it is created as well as its stylistic expressions.
