CHARLESTON, SC – December 4, 2015 – Jazz Artists of Charleston (JAC) concludes the Charleston Jazz Orchestra (CJO) Season 7 with the Special Event: HOLIDAY SWING: A Charleston Jazz Tradition on Saturday, December 12 at 8 p.m. for its debut performance at the Charleston Gaillard Center, 95 Calhoun Street. Music Director Charlton Singleton will lead the Charleston Jazz Orchestra with featured guest vocalist Quiana Parler, adding jazz to the holiday cheer with big band arrangements of holiday favorites and a few favorites from 2015 CJO Season 7.
Music Director, Charlton Singleton was recently named as the first Artist in Residence at the Gaillard. “I am thrilled to be leading the Charleston Jazz Orchestra in its first performance at the Gaillard. Our holiday concert is always a fan favorite that gets everyone into the holiday spirit.”
Featured guest vocalist, Quiana Parler, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, will join the CJO in its mission to jazz up the holidays with big band favorites. Ms. Parler began her professional career singing for Calvin Gilmore of the Carolina Opry. In 2003, she placed in the Top 48 of season two of the Fox Television hit, American Idol, and has toured with vocalist Clay Aiken. Over the years, she has shared the stage with a diverse array of national artists ranging from Keith Sweat to Kelly Clarkson and can be heard on albums by Clay Aiken, Bianca Ryan and Renee Olstead. She has performed on Saturday Night Live, The View, NBC’s Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, Tyra and numerous other national television programs.
The Charleston Jazz Orchestra is produced and presented by Jazz Artists of Charleston (JAC), a South Carolina-based nonprofit organization incorporated to foster a professional environment for jazz musicians, artists, students and enthusiasts in the Charleston area. Its mission is to develop, promote, and support a vibrant and creative jazz culture through concerts, special outreach events, and educational programs. JAC endeavors to preserve and bolster Charleston’s rich musical history and legacy as it explores the various realms of jazz in terms of how it is created as well as its stylistic expressions.
