SUMMER SAMBA – Charleston Jazz Orchestra + Special Guests

Escape the ordinary and enter the vibrant world of Brazilian jazz! Electrifying and enthralling arrangements will put a little Samba in your step as warm Portuguese lyrics waft through the air, accented by the subtle drama of Bossa Nova. You’ll feel like you’re walking the streets of Ipanema or sipping a Caipirinha at the Copacabana as South American culture collides with your favorite Big Band! Special Guest artists: Heather Rice, Alva Anderson and Duda Lucena.

DUDA LUCENA
Inspired by his father’s guitar serenades, Brazilian guitarist Duda Lucena composed his first song at the age of 12. Known for his unique blend of jazz, classical, and Brazilian music, Lucena has released several albums and has performed at major festivals and venues around the world. Notable appearances include performances with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Jazz Orchestra, XM Sirius’ Real Jazz Show and the Charleston Jazz Festival.
HEATHER RICE
Heather Rice is a Charleston based artist known for her powerful voice and intelligent songwriting. She is an opener for Joan Osborne, Sheryl Crow, and Lady Antebellum. She co-wrote “Like Make Believe” for Hootie and the Blowfish artist, Mark Bryan and was a featured performer in the Las Vegas smash hit and drama desk award winning show, Toxic Audio. Heather Rice heads Red Lion Recording her indie record label where she releases her original music.
ALVA ANDERSON
Alva Anderson is a jazz performer hailing from the Bronx, NY. Known for her soulful and dynamic performances, Anderson has been a fixture in the local jazz scene, with regular appearances at Forte Jazz Lounge. Her rich, conversational vocal style has earned her a devoted following. Anderson has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in jazz including: Carmen MacRea, Dizzy Gillespie, Barry Harris, Tito Puente and more.
