Charleston Jazz Academy’s Jazz Combo Camp is our signature summer program. The camp is designed to provide a fun and educational experience for young musicians who are interested in exploring the world of jazz music. The program offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers topics such as improvisation, rhythm, music theory, and ensemble playing. Students will have the opportunity to work with experienced jazz musicians and educators who will help them develop their skills and build their confidence as performers. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced musician, the Jazz Combo Camp is a great way to improve your playing and make new friends who share your passion for jazz music.

*Please note, Summer Jazz Combo Camps are for students grades 7-12 with at least 1 year experience on their instrument. For any questions about summer camp eligibility or registration, please email [email protected].

Time: 9AM-3:30PM
Ages: 7th grade and up with one year of experience playing an instrument.
Cost: $275

Charleston Summer Camp Week 1

June 1-5, 2026
Camp Coltrane
will be the music of iconic saxophonist, John Coltrane in celebration 100 years since his birth. Students will deepen their musical skills while exploring Coltrane’s influence on jazz through guided rehearsals, creative expression, and live performance. The experience is elevated by special masterclasses with internationally acclaimed artists Chico Pinheiro (guitar) and Pedrito Martinez (percussion), who bring global perspectives and world-class artistry as featured performers of Spoleto Festival USA.

June 22-26, 2026
It’s Electric
 will dive into the world of Fusion and the initial introduction of electric instruments into jazz music.

Charleston Summer Camp Week 3

July 20-24, 2026
All Blues
 will be exploring different forms of the blues form from its inception to modern interpretations.
