Symphonic Swing – Jazz Meets the Classics (CMH)
May 22, 2021 @ 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM EDT
Although Jazz and Classical music are different in many ways, the border between the two genres is a fluid one. With Symphonic Swing, your CJO will bring the world of improvisation and swing to notable Classical compositions. Local arrangers will bridge the gaps, bend the genres, and introduce the styles of Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Billie Holiday to Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven to name a few! For two performances at the Charleston Music Hall (CMH), Jazz meets the Classics!
“Some of our favorite concerts highlight the writing/arranging talents of our local jazz community. In Symphonic Swing, we’ll be presenting a full slate of brand-new charts based on popular melodies from the classical tradition. I can’t wait to hear what everyone comes up with!”
-Robert Lewis, CJO Music Director
