CHARLESTON, SC – The Art of Jazz Series is a three-part series featuring the Richard White Trio on June 19, 2019, the Lee Barbour Trio on July 24, 2019 and the Arshak Sirunyan Quartet on August 21, 2019 from 6pm – 7pm at the Gibbes Museum of Art located on 135 Meeting Street. Tickets are on sale now: $25 general admission | $20 for Gibbes Museum of Art Members | $10 for students. The ticket price includes the jazz concert and museum admission. JUNE 19, 2019: 2019 Art of Jazz Series: Richard White Trio
Richard White is one of the most dynamic pianists and composers in the Charleston area. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he studied classical piano from age 7-17 and was introduced to jazz by his father before high school. Richard has performed in Victoria, British Columbia and recently completed a successful international jazz tour. He has opened for many famous artists such as Branford Marsalis, Will Downing, Brian McKnight and Alex Bugnon. He has played locally with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, the Charlton Singleton Quintet, and the Charleston Symphony that featured vocalist Ellis Hall.

JULY 24, 2019: 2019 Art of Jazz Series: Lee Barbour Trio
Lee Barbour is a gifted guitarist and composer from Charleston, SC. He has performed and recorded with several international artists, including guitar legend Joe Beck, Fred Wesley (James Brown), Earl Klugh, Kebbi Williams (Tedeschi Trucks Band), Elise Testone (American Idol) and Cary Ann Hearst (Shovels and Rope). Lee has composed music for documentaries, animation, commercials and feature film. He taught guitar at The New York City Guitar School and The College of Charleston and continues to teach privately. Lee performs regularly with several different projects and runs his own production company, Avant Garage, producing original music for all visual media. The Lee Barbour Trio will showcase their technical mastery and unique explorations on July 24 at the Art of Jazz concert series!

AUGUST 21, 2019: 2019 Art of Jazz Series: Arsak Sirunyan Quartet
Born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia, composer and pianist Arshak Sirunyan moved to the United States in 2002 and has recorded several acclaimed albums as a leader. In 2014, he released ‘Hoodman’s Blind’ which featured several Grammy Award winning artists, such as Mike Stern, Omar Hakim, and Eric Marienthal. Two of its tracks won 1st place in the 2014 International Songwriting Competition.

Charleston Jazz and the Gibbes Museum of Art present the third-annual Art of Jazz Series, sponsored by the Kite Foundation Fund, Art Bridges and the Gibbes’ Women’s Council.
