Charleston Jazz is pleased to partner with the Gibbes Museum on the Art of Jazz music series!
The highly anticipated Art of Jazz Series is where art and music collide. A collaboration with the Gibbes Museum, this annual three-concert series showcases original jazz music inspired by works on display at the museum. This one-of-a-kind musical experience has become very popular and sells out fast.
About the Performer:
Bandleader and multi-faceted guitarist, Grace McNally, crosses genres and cultures with her arrangements, original music, and interpretations of jazz standards and folk songs. She has performed and produced solo and ensemble works and her concerts have been described as captivating and imaginative, as audiences journey through the rich cultural landscapes of West Africa and the Americas. When Grace is not writing or performing, she is the station manager for WOHM Radio 96.3FM and has a weekly radio show called Travel Notes that uses music as a medium to explore ways in which we are all connected.
About the Concert:
In her special Art of Jazz concert, McNally will explore the works of three celebrated artists: abstract expressionists Merton D. Simpson and William M. Halsey, and Cuban-American painter Reynier Llanes. Grace and her bandmates will express musically the stories and emotions that each masterpiece evokes. A combination of new, original pieces and Cuban and Brazilian folk songs have been curated especially for the Art of Jazz series, and you will be among the first to hear this one-of-a-kind collection of songs.
