SAXOPHONE SUPERNOVA – Charleston Jazz Orchestra + Melissa Aldana

Prestigious Blue Note recording artist and Grammy-nominated musician Melissa Aldana is a Chilean-born tenor saxophonist who is making big waves in the jazz scene. At the age of 24, Aldana became the first female instrumentalist and the first South American musician to win the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. This marks her first collaboration with the world-renown Charleston Jazz Orchestra as she delves into the greatest hits of her saxophone heroes through the generations, including John Coltrane, Benny Golson, Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson.

ABOUT THE CHARLESTON JAZZ ORCHESTRA
The Charleston Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Robert Lewis, has been performing for audiences in the Lowcountry for over 14 years. The Charleston Jazz Orchestra is comprised of 18 accomplished jazz musicians and is an entertaining and educational example of the rich history of jazz in Charleston. The Charleston Jazz Orchestra offers a six concert subscription series known for its unique, enthusiastically received performances that contribute mightily to the ever-evolving Lowcountry arts scene.
