CHARLESTON, SC – AUGUST 31, 2016 – The Charleston Jazz Orchestra announces CHARLESTON SINGS!, a performance armed with a roster stacked with some of the most talented musicians and vocalists in South Carolina. The concert will be held on September 24, 2016 at the Charleston Music Hall with show times at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
This is the first ever CJO concert featuring a line-up of Charleston’s vocal all-stars. Enjoy performances from Lindsay Holler, Calvin Taylor, Starr Acheson, and Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers. Led by music director and conductor, Charlton Singleton, CHARLESTON SINGS! is set to entertain guests with a lively and diverse repertoire of songs from the American Songbook spanning multiple musical genres including jazz, R&B, classical and spirituals. Enjoy songs made famous by such great vocal celebrities as Nat King Cole, James Brown, Brook Benton, Natalie Cole, Frank Sinatra, Jerry Butler and Judy Garland with a special a capella segment honoring indigenous songs of the Lowcountry.

Charleston Sings! Vocalists:
Starr Acheson, a classically trained singer and actress, has graced the stage in operas, Broadway musicals, plays and concerts throughout the country. Founder and director of the Folly Beach Jazz Festival, Acheson is set to perform crowd favorites including Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers are set to pay homage to their ancestors through Swing Low. Inspiring crowds all over the country, the group has performed for Nobel Peace Prize winner, Toni Morrison, Emmy-award winner, Phylicia Rashad, Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, nationally acclaimed artist, Jonathan Green, actor, Isaiah Washington, and many others.
Calvin Taylor joined the original Drifters in 1979 where he played with BB King, Maurice Williams, Junior Walker and opened for national artists like Joe Cocker, B. B. King, and Eddie Right. Calvin worked with former lead singer of the Temptations, Dennis Edwards. For the last year, Calvin has performed solo and with his band all along the East Coast, entertaining audiences from young to old. Calvin will sing the ever popular Stand By Me.
Lindsay Holler hails the South as home and has lived in New Orleans, Boston and New York. Lindsay studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and is a graduate of the College of Charleston. Holler cites influences from the likes of Tom Waits, Gram Parsons, Nina Simone and Neil Young, preferring genre straddlers, categorical misfits and indefinables. Lindsay will touch upon the nostalgic with A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square.
