The Charleston Jazz Orchestra is proud to present Love Supreme featuring two powerhouse local vocalists – Heather Rice & Tommy Brown Jr. to the West Beach Conference Center on Sunday\, August 17 at 7:30PM. \nThe show will highlight music from the Motown\, Swing\, Bossa Nova and Big Band eras\, to include favorites by Stevie Wonder\, Burt Bacharach\, George Gershwin\, Esperanza Spalding\, John Coltrane and Al Green. He studied engineering at South Carolina State University and worked as an industrial engineer before deciding to pursue his musical career full-time. Tommy has been singing since the age of 9 and has shared the stage with many artists locally and internationally. She is an opener for Joan Osborne\, Sheryl Crow\, and Lady Antebellum. Rice co-wrote the song\, “Like Make Believe” for Hootie and the Blowfish artist\, Mark Bryan\, and was a featured performer in the drama desk award-winning show\, Toxic Audio. Rice has been featured with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra\, The Orlando Jazz Orchestra\, The Charleston Jazz Orchestra\, the North Charleston Pops\, and the Charleston Symphony. She has headlined festivals such as Musikfest\, NSB Jazz Festival\, and the Charleston Jazz Festival. Even the Duke Ellington Orchestra found itself struggling until the historic gig at the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival. With an electrifying performance\, Duke Ellington and his orchestra transformed the crowd at Freedom Park. This performance revitalized Duke Ellington’s career. For CJO at Kiawah: Ellington at Newport\, the CJO will recreate that notable night in jazz history.
