SUMMARY:Rooibos Quartet Album Release Show
DESCRIPTION:The Rooibos Quartet is a guitar\, piano\, bass and drum modern jazz quartet consisting of Jesse Shafer\, Tyler Sim\, Fisher Wilson and Kain Naylor. The group came as a result of old friendships and took shape one evening where the four members were coincidentally placed on a gig together. Jesse brought several original tunes with him that evening that became the basis of this recording project. The band collectively hopes to bring a new repertoire to the existing legacy of jazz as well as a rich and colorful sound. Following recording the album with Wolfgang Zimmerman at Rialto Row\, the group sought out to expand their network\, thus opening a relationship with Sunnyside Records. As it stands\, all of the members regularly play gigs around Charleston\, but save performances as the Rooibos Quartet for special occasions\, such as this debut album release show at Forte.

SUMMARY:The Crossover
DESCRIPTION:There can be a fine line between some of the world’s best-known Jazz and R&B artists. Over the years we have seen tremendous “crossover” from some of the most beloved R&B artists into the Jazz category and vice-versa. George Benson\, Al Jarreau\, and the late Grover Washington\, Jr.\, are just a few of the household names that were able to seamlessly go in and out of both Jazz and R&B with ease and much success. GRAMMY Award Winner Charlton Singleton presents his band\, Contemporary Flow\, in a night of songs that have made the crossover\, as well as tunes from his latest solo Contemporary Jazz project\, “Datenight”. \nCharlton Singleton – Trumpet/Vocal\nStephen Washington – Keyboards\nGreg Loney – Guitar\nLaVonta Green – Bass\nJames “JT” Rollerson – Drums \n

SUMMARY:From the Archives: Robert Lewis Quartet - The Acoustic Side of Michael Brecker
DESCRIPTION:2019 Charleston Jazz Festival\nOriginally performed live on January 25\, 2019\nMichael Brecker was one of the most influential and beloved tenor saxophonists. His performances on hundreds of jazz\, pop\, R&B\, and rock albums largely defined the sound of the saxophone through the 1970’s\, 80’s and 90’s. An underrated aspect of Brecker’s artistry are his incredible compositions. These are amazingly detailed works playing with harmonies\, forms and melodies that had not been heard before\, all the while keeping the fire and emotion of the greatest jazz. \nDuring the 5th Annual Charleston Jazz Festival\, the Robert Lewis Quartet performed several of these wonderful songs that showcase this colossal and acoustic side of Michael Brecker. Robert Lewis is the Director of Jazz Studies at the College of Charleston\, the Director of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra\, and one of the most talented saxophonists in South Carolina. \nRobert Lewis – Tenor Saxophone\nDemetrius Doctor – Piano\nBen Wells – Acoustic Bass\nDavid Patterson – Drums \nVirtual Premiere – Thursday\, February 25\, 2021  |  7:00pm\nFREE EVENT\nDon’t forget to follow us on FACEBOOK and subscribe to our YOUTUBE Channel
