Even the Duke Ellington Orchestra found itself struggling until the historic gig at the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival. With an electrifying performance\, Duke Ellington and his orchestra transformed the crowd at Freedom Park. This performance revitalized Duke Ellington’s career. For CJO at Kiawah: Ellington at Newport\, the CJO will recreate that notable night in jazz history. Given the current landscape with rising COVID numbers and transmission among people who have been fully vaccinated\, the Gibbes Museum is requiring face coverings for anyone employed by the museum and for guests of in-person programs like concerts and lectures while inside the building.\nArt of Jazz: Geoffrey Dean Trio is the final performance in the 2021 Art of Jazz Series. He began playing classical piano at age 5 before fully pursuing jazz and began jazz studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins\, and then the Berklee College of Music. Afterwards\, he then moved to Knoxville\, Tennessee to study with his mentor and former ‘Jazz Messenger’ Donald Brown while pursuing a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance.
