Saxophonist Greg Abate at Fox Music

Jazz Saxophonist Greg Abate, who is listed in Downbeat Magazine’s latest critics poll as among jazz music’s top rising stars, brings his jazz quartet for a high powered night of music to Fox Music House, 4248 Dorchester Rd, Saturday, May 11th at 6:30.

A graduate of Berklee School of Music in Boston, Abate, was lead alto sax player with Ray Charles, played with the legendary Artie Shaw, and with a number of top headliners before forming his own band several years ago.

Appearing with Abate will be pianist Frank Puzzullo, who has been heard locally with such stars as Lew Tabackin and Richie Cole. He will also be joined by Columbia area bassist Sam Edwards, who is quickly becoming one of the rising stars in the region and drummer Ed Hamilton, who frequently tours with internationally acclaimed veterans trombonist Wycliff Gordon and guitarist Frank Vignola.

Tickets are $10. Attendees are welcome to bring their own wine and sandwiches.

There will also be a free clinic for music students.
