Family Jazz Day

Nurturing the next generation of jazz performers is integral to our mission and on the final day of the Charleston Jazz Festival, we are celebrating our up-and-coming jazz musicians from around South Carolina! Come hear from some of the best youth jazz artists including our own Charleston All Star Jazz Band, a program of our Charleston Jazz Academy.
The Family Jazz Day line-up will include:
2:15pm Theatre Lobby Westside High School Jazz Combo Hailing from Anderson, SC, the Westside High School Jazz Combo is integral part of the band program at Westside High School. This group is regularly called to perform within the community for a wide variety of events. These events include the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast, various business openings, and various Music in the Schools events.
3:00pm Charleston School of the Arts Jazz Band Known as “SOA JAZZ,” this elite high school band from North Charleston, led by Kindall N. Smith, Director of Bands, has performed at several prestigious events including the East Carolina University Jazz Festival, the Savannah Music Festival, the Spoleto Festival, and the South Carolina Music Educators Convention.
3:45pm South Carolina All-Stars Jazz Combo New to our Family Day line up, this jazz combo consists of students throughout South Carolina who were selected through an audition process. Led by Charlton Singleton, this jazz combo is excited to make its debut performance at the Charleston Jazz Festival!
4:15pm Wando High School Festival Jazz Band The Festival Jazz Band is Wando’s premier jazz ensemble with a standard big band instrumentation. It is an auditioned ensemble that rehearses weekly after school. The jazz program has had a consistently strong showing in student placement to the South Carolina All-State Jazz Bands. The Wando Jazz Program has played several public events, including the Lowcountry Strawberry Festival, the Mount Pleasant Business Association, and the South Carolina Music Educators Convention.
5:00pm Charleston All-Stars Jazz Band This all-star high school jazz band is comprised of Charleston’s top youth jazz musicians hand-picked by area high school band directors and music teachers. Under the direction of Mr. David Carter, Director of Education and Outreach at Charleston Jazz, this ensemble serves as the finale performance of our annual Charleston Jazz Festival.
