Amos Hoffman – Tim Fischer Quartet
September 20, 2018 @ 5:00 PM - 6:45 PM EDT
Charleston Jazz is pleased to present a Dinner and Show* at Dockery’s featuring the Amos Hoffman – Tim Fischer Quartet.
Amos Hoffman is an internationally acclaimed guitarist who emigrated to South Carolina from Israel after touring in the U.S. with bassist Avashai Cohen. His technical proficiency and melodic ingenuity were showcased during a 2016 Charleston performance with famed NYC guitarist Jack Wilkins, as well as frequent appearances throughout South Carolina and at worldwide jazz festivals and concert halls. Hoffman is also proficient on the Oud, a guitar-like Middle Eastern instrument.
In 2013, Amos was awarded one of Israel’s most prestigious prizes – The Landau Prize for Arts and Sciences for Outstanding Achievement in the field of jazz. To date, Hoffman has recorded five solo albums: The Dreamer (1999), Na’ama (2006), Evolution (2008) Carving (2010) and Back to the City (2015). According to Down Beat, “Hoffman may well be today’s Rosetta Stone of jazz. Equally adept in Middle Eastern harmonies as he is in 52nd Street swing.”
Tim Fischer is a jazz guitarist, composer, and educator who has performed across the United States as well as in Europe. Growing up in Los Angeles, Tim had the good fortune to study and perform with many of the great musicians that call the city home. The lessons learned during his formative years in Los Angeles are compiled on his debut album as a leader, Due South, which features his original compositions and arrangements performed by a mix of friends from both the West Coast and Midwest.
Amos and Tim are joined by Charleston standouts Brett Belanger on bass and Ron Wiltrout on drums. On September 20, you won’t want to miss this Jazz Guitar Explosion!
