 In Jazz Around Town

AUGUST 7, 2016 at 7:30 pm / East Beach Conference Center

CHARLESTON, SC July 13, 2016 – The Charleston Jazz Orchestra (CJO) will kick off the Town of Kiawah Island Arts and Cultural Events Council’s new season by bringing Latin beats to Kiawah Island on August 7, 2016, at the East Beach Conference Center.  Music Director Charlton Singleton and the CJO will return to Kiawah Island for Celebrating Latin Jazz, a concert featuring one of Charleston’s premier vocalists, Quiana Parler, along with Latin-born guest percussionist, Gino Castillo.

The diverse program will include fiery rhythms of salsa, cha-cha, samba, and bossa nova tunes. Songs include Girl From Ipanema, Como Fue, and Cha Cha Charleston as well as a few jazz-infused favorites from Santana. This is the 2nd time the CJO has performed on Kiawah Island as part of a special line-up of concerts offered by the Town of Kiawah Island Arts and Cultural Events Council.

Latin Jazz has played a major role in my life as a vocalist and performer for many years,” said Quiana Parler. “I’m so excited to hit the stage with Music Maestro Charlton Singleton and the Charleston Jazz Orchestra.”  Guest percussionist, Gino Castillo, also enjoys bringing authentic style to the CJO program. According to Gino, “Latin Jazz is the meeting point between Africa, USA and Latin America. It is one of the several ways to celebrate the fact that we are all brothers and sisters.”

The CJO performs Latin inspired programs once a year and always brings a unique touch to each concert. Tickets are priced at $15 for adults and $10 for children (17 years and under). There will be one performance at 7:30 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets visit: http://jazzartistsofcharleston.org/event/celebrating-latin-jazz-kiawah/
